Most people who are in the process of considering new floors have homes built more than ten years ago. That often means the home has a combination of carpet, vinyl and tile floors. Because so many homes in Florida choose tile, hardwood flooring isn’t as popular here as it is in other parts of the country. However, there are many great reasons to consider hardwood flooring.
1. Hardwood Flooring is a Sound Investment
Whether this is your forever home or you just plan on staying a few years, hardwood floors are an investment. They’ll last for decades and most Realtors® will tell you that it is one of the flooring types that boost the resale value of the home.
2. No Allergies
Carpet can easily hold pollen and pet dander. Tile grout can grow mold or become mildewed. Hardwood flooring doesn’t do either. It’s easy to sweep and dry or wet mop. You can quickly remove allergens daily and keep your family feeling great inside your home.
3. Easy to Clean
Daily sweeping and regular vacuuming or use of a dust mop and weekly mopping is all you need to do with hardwood floors. With tile you have to scrub the grout in addition to sweeping, vacuuming and mopping. Carpets need to be shampooed at least twice a year to look great.
4. Comfortable to Stand On
One of the complaints of tile is how hard it is to stand on. If you like to cook or spend a lot of time standing in your home, you’ll be significantly more comfortable on hardwood floors than tile. Tile is also colder than wood which is great in the summer, but not in the winter.
5. Repair and Restoration is Possible
Damaged carpet and vinyl tile often require replacing the flooring in the entire space. Broken tiles can be replaced if you have some left over, but you may need to re-grout the entire room for a consistent look. Pre-finished flooring may be able to be replaced, again if you have enough left over. It’s much easier to replace a section of damaged hardwood. All you need is the same species and width boards and to stain it. You may need to do a screen and recoat of the section for a consistent look but it is possible which again, makes for a better investment.
