As you’re considering new flooring, you may not think first of laminate. You may be convinced it’s a cheap imitation of other flooring materials. However, today’s laminate flooring has a lot more pros than cons and a lot more going for it today than even ten years ago. Here are what we think of in the pros and cons of laminate flooring.
Pros of Laminate Flooring
One of the biggest pros of laminate flooring is that when you choose the right AC rated flooring, it will last. And, look great for a long time whether you’ve chosen a wood-look, stone-look or tile-like patttern. Laminate flooring also requires little maintenance. There’s no refinishing or grout lines to clean. Just keep it swept and mop it as needed. We love that it comes in nearly countless colors, styles and sizes. It’s also quite affordable.
Cons of Laminate Flooring
When it comes to the pros and cons of laminate flooring, there are fewer cons for most people. The three biggest are:
- It doesn’t add value to your home like some other flooring materials like hardwood do.
- Repetition of board pattern in wood-look products is easy to spot which makes it easier to spot as a fake wood floor.
- You’ll have to replace it sooner than hardwood or engineered wood as it can’t be refinished and when damaged, there is no repairing it.
Some people also consider the sound of laminate a detractor, however with a good underlayment this can be mostly corrected.
