There are more options for flooring today than ever before. One that is greatly misunderstood is laminate flooring. As an installer of laminate floors, we want to help you understand the facts. It will help you decide if it’s the right option for your family.
Myth 1 – Laminate Flooring Isn’t Durable
Laminate is rated based on its wear layer using the Abrasion Class (AC) rating scale. The ratings go from AC1 to AC5. The higher the number, the more durable due to a thicker wear layer. When you choose a product with an AC rating appropriate to the type of traffic in the room, your flooring will last for years.
Myth 2 – Laminate Looks Cheap
Today’s laminate isn’t the same as what you may have had installed even ten years go. With modern manufacturing techniques you will be surprised at just how much laminate looks like any other wood product.
Myth 3 – Laminate Comes in Wood Look Only
Today’s laminate flooring can look like wood, tile, natural stone and other materials. You may be surprised at the selection of today’s laminates.
Fact 1 – Laminate Flooring is Easy to Clean
Of all the wood look or tile look products, laminate is the easiest to clean. Simply sweep, vacuum or use a dustmop and then damp mop it. No grout to clean and no cracks that can collect dirt like some other materials.
Fact 2 – You Can Replace Sections
If you install a new laminate floor, make sure you have a few pieces left over. As long as your flooring installer doesn’t glue down your laminate, if one piece or area sustains damage, it’s fairly easy to replace the damaged section (assuming you have extra).
Fact 3 – Laminate Costs Less Than Many Other Flooring Materials
When you need a budget friendly flooring material and want it to look great, laminate is a great option. Although some laminate can cost as much as hardwood and engineered wood, those products are generally meant for high commercial traffic. Most laminate you want in your home costs about half that of engineered or hardwood flooring.
